Question 1

What is Azolla and how does it reduce livestock feed costs in Uganda?

Accepted Answer

Azolla is a fast-growing aquatic fern that doubles its biomass every 3 to 7 days in simple water systems like basins and lined ponds. Rich in 25-30% crude protein, minerals, and vitamins, it replaces 20% to 35% of expensive commercial concentrate feeds for poultry, pigs, dairy cattle, and goats, reducing feed bills by over 30%.

Question 2

How does Azolla farming support habitat conservation and zero-grazing?

Accepted Answer

By providing an abundant, year-round on-farm feed source, Azolla enables complete zero-grazing. Farmers no longer need to herd goats and cattle into protected forests or fragile wetlands for pasture during dry spells, preserving biodiversity and eliminating disease transmission between domestic stock and wild animals.

Question 3

How can farmers order Azolla starter cultures and get trained?

Accepted Answer

Farmers can contact Azofarm Ug directly via WhatsApp at +256 752 518 402 or email info@azofarmug.com to order pure starter cultures with nationwide delivery and book hands-on training sessions.
